I went into work trying to keep my head held high. I was trying to make sure I was looking up and maybe my looking physically up would help my mind to look up as well. The sun was so bright I was squinting so I couldn't really see well anyway
I was not clocked in but for a full minute when our store manager came looking for people to check up front. I spent my first 2 and a half hours on a register. It really sucked! But they only had 1 cashier scheduled because another manager told them to not come in. Why they did that was because our store was down 25 percent on the holiday. So they have cut hours even though they already had cut everyone a day for holiday pay in the store. So basically they are double cutting the store. We only get paid time and a half on holidays cut a hole day and it's already delt with cut more hours and your digging into normal pay.
Corse during my 3 days off this week I decided I would start back at the gym and made an appointment to get looked at and pay the fines and all. Corse I walk in today and hear this is going to be for several months this cutting time. So i make the quick decision to cut that out again. I called when I came back home to cancell the check out. I'm also returning the stuff I bought at kohl's to work out in. Yes new outfit for working out in was necessary. I never buy clothes but this year I've bought so much because all my other clothes has holes in it from being worn so much.
So the next few weeks/months we'll see how things go. I'm hoping it picks up a little. I don't like my new schedule and all it's weird hours... they seem to think if they have you come in during 15 or 30 minute increments that they can save money. It just makes my alarm clock wigg out.
In other good news I have almost saved up my 3 months emergency fund in case I lose my income.

that's super-awesome that you've saved three months of income.
also super-responsible that you took clothes you wanted back to the store, we do the opposite here and keep clothes we don't want but intend to return. That is a good idea to save up that money for a just in case situation.
@macgillicuddy - well i have been trying to stay on the dave ramsey financial steps. i am very bad with money and i actually have these steps wrote on a board on my bedroom wall. it's the first and last thing i see before bed lol. reminding me not to screw up again with my finanaces. and it's not 3 month salary but a 3 month expense. my expenses are low. if something happened to my family and i was on my own i would need a lot more.
@godfatherofgreenbay - yes i agree. i tink everyone should have something to fall back on. but many don't and need the governements hand out occationally. i don't think that should be relied on though. just a help up. the way things are going i may need this if things don't pick up at work.
Glad to hear you have three month's worth of emergency living money. Sorry to hear abt your job. Keep on the look out for something better, persistence pays off.
My colleague, in his defense, is not lazy...he's just full of himself and takes longer than he should. He has a high workload and boast abt it. (Refer to the he's full of himself part.)
3 months income as a security Blanket, wise lady you are!
Good for you! It's very important to have emergency savings! I hope you don't get anymore hours cut!
its nice to have money saved for an emergency.
Back before all this economy news I was saving up not to work for 2 years. ha ha. I saved enough so I could quit my job for two years and just pay my main bills. Well I thought I did. But anyway, I never stopped working, now I'm just saving.
First of all, grats on the saving up income for three months!! WOO HOO! That right there is a big deal!
Secondly, it was good to hear you tried to really lift your spirits.
I realize that cashiering sucks, but think of it this way....... you got paid that day the cashier that was told to not come in, did not!
So, in a lot of ways you are very lucky!
Every time we get any money saved up something happens that wipes it all out. Never fails seems like.
Always hate how you got into a store that has all these registers but only one or two open, big long line of people waiting to get checked-out.
Take care hun
@MagnetoX_Onslaught - yes i am very proud of my savings since i started in debt a while back. learned my lesson for the 3rd of 4th time in that.
finallyhoping it sticks though.
@RestlessButterfly - i did not think this up on my own. a very wise man named dave ramsey did. i am just fallowing his book and steps.
@Orlando - normally i wouldn't feel back getting cut a few hours but when you are already cut an entire day it starts to hurt. luckily i did not get cut at all this week other than my extra day. i was too busy.
@DrawkcabTrebor - at one point i wanted to save enough money to take a leave of absence and live in germany for a few months. but i have since rethought that plan.
@sle21408 - i found out later only sales clerks got cut the extra day on their scheules so the cashiers were being told not to come in because they had been scheduled regular hours and were getting holiday pay without the deducted hours. so we all ended up with the same hours.
@Katliin - well at least you have that amount saved for the problems when they come up.
@NightlyDreams - Haha, hey it happens to all of us. Have you heard of ING Direct? You can check them out, Google them, etc, they're FDIC insured so you should feel safe. But basically, they're an online bank, free to join. I picked Orange Savings, and each month on my paycheck, I alloted a good third of my paycheck to them automatically. This way, I am saving, without actively doing it because I cheat, and the money I have left, I can spend as I will. I know I have money elsewhere, but it takes two days to withdraw so that's a pain. I started doing this March 3. Right now, I have eleven times the amount I originally deposited, and right now, it's July 11th.
Before the allotment, I was terrible w savings. A friend of mine, one year younger, slipped a comment that she at least has five grand at her disposal. I was like O_O, what am I doing w my life!? I worked for one full year ahead of her and I have next to nothing to show for myself. I got my act together and it took a while, I won't lie to you. But the progress is there, the progress will happen...pending that you don't spend what is alloted to your ING account.
So again, do some homework on the bank, ask around, don't just take my word for it. I saved 11x the amount I started saving four months ago. Best wishes!
It's hard for most to save up 3 months worth of paychecks. Congrats on that! Now I'm wondering why you might think you might lose income. Then again, I haven't been here for a while and you probably made a post about it.
Yup, retail tends to do that with their employees. I myself was given crappy hours up when I lived in Seattle. One day, I have to come in around 3pm, and then the next day 4am. It really just wears you out, not to mention having really irritating customers as well.
@MagnetoX_Onslaught - i just have a regular normal bank. i like being able to go in and talk to the clerk and make sure my moneys going where i want it. because my paycheck fluctuates from week to week i really don't feel comfortable with the direct deposit deductions. perhaps if i had a steady income each week i would feel differently. as far as savings go though i am doing much better than i ever have before. i have more money now that i ever have had in savings in the past.
@LegendaryD - i think some places do that on purpose trying to drive their employees to quit or make them so irritable that they end up firing them for being rude to customers later. the higher ups either think of it in order to manipulate the situations like that or they don't think at all. not sure which.
they are cutting hours a lot lately because sales have started to go down. they don't want to "fire" people but they are writing people up for some of the stupidest things lately. 1 minute over is given a warning if you get any amount of overage more than 3 days then you are written up. 3 write ups and you are gone. etc. for 1 minute over! or parking in the wrong place. etc.
@interstellarmachine - thanks it took a lot of mistakes to come to the realization that i needed one.
so sorry times are tough. keep up the good work saving. i am too.
@Manndingo - do you think a day will come along that we can just blow it all at one place on something completely rediculous? and if so what would that rediculousness thing be?
